About the Project

Eirtrans is the backbone of automotive logistics between the UK and Ireland, providing a seamless bridge for car transportation and commercial vehicle storage. The mission was to develop a rugged, high-utility mobile application that replaces paperwork with a high-performance Digital Logistics Hub. This app serves as the primary interface for drivers and fleet managers, ensuring that every vehicle movement is tracked, inspected, and documented with surgical precision.

The Business Challenge

01 Documentation Integrity: Moving vehicles across borders requires strict compliance. The challenge was to eliminate "lost clipboards" and manual entry errors during vehicle health checks.

02 Real-Time Fleet Visibility: With drivers moving between the UK and Ireland, the office needed an instant feedback loop on vehicle condition and driver status.

03 Operational Accountability: Ensuring that every "Nil Defect" or maintenance issue (like coolant levels or tire security) is logged before a trailer ever hits the road.

04 Cross-Border Logistics Complexity: Simplifying the hand-off process for car storage and light commercial transport through a unified digital interface.

Strategic Roadmap

Driver-First UX: Designed a high-contrast, low-friction interface (Login via Driver PIN) that works perfectly for drivers in low-light loading docks or busy ports.

Compliance-Driven Flow: Implemented a mandatory pre-trip inspection checklist (e.g., Battery Security, Spray Suppression, Steering) that must be finalized before a trip is logged.

Integrated Logistics Stack: Leveraged Java and Firebase for real-time data syncing, ensuring that a "Red Status" on an inspection (like the Coolant issue shown in the app) alerts the maintenance team instantly.

Local Storage Reliability: Utilized SQLite to ensure drivers can complete their logs in areas with poor cellular reception (like ferry holds or rural depots) and sync once back online.

Key Features

Digital Vehicle Inspection Report (DVIR): A streamlined checklist with color-coded status indicators (Green for Y, Red for N) to ensure rapid, error-free safety checks.
Smart Defect Logging: A dedicated "Remarks" and "General Remarks" section that allows drivers to specify issues, paired with a "Nil Defects" shortcut for quick finalization.
Trailer & Mileage Tracking: Automated tracking of specific Trailer IDs and real-time mileage logging to maintain an accurate audit trail for every vehicle movement.
Geospatial Intelligence: Integrated Google Maps functionality to optimize routing for car transporters and provide live location updates to the central dispatch.
Secure Authentication: A simplified "Select Driver & Enter PIN" login system to ensure security without slowing down the driver's workflow.
